JIS G3131 SPHD steel

SPHD steel is a material grade and designation defined in JIS G3131 standard. It also lies in the category of dead mild steel. For more information see SPHC steels, since there is a slight difference of chemical composition between SPHC & SPHD steels that is for ensuring better mechanical properties in SPHD steels.
SPHD steels dimensional availability:
Since SPHD steels is hot rolled steel, the available thicknesses are from 1.2 mm to 14 mm. The width of the material ranges from 1200 mm to 2000 mm.
SPHD steel chemical composition:
Carbon is less than or equal to 0.10%.
Manganese is less than or equal to 0.60 %.
Maximum range of Phosphorous & Sulphur is 0.05 %.
Rest percentage is of iron in the chemical composition of SPHD steels.
SPHD steel mechanical properties:
The tensile strength of SPHD grade is same as of SPHC steel grade i.e. at-least 270 N/mm2 (MPa). The elongation of this grade is different for different ranges of thicknesses. Looking at the lower tolerable elongation for the lower gauge of 1.2 to 1.5 mm is 30 % minimum. The bend-ability of material is 180 degrees on itself.
SPHD steel application:
SPHD steel is widely used for household applicance, metal decorating, tinplating, tubbing, building color coated.
